As part of the Alliance for Energy Transition (ATE) Mobilisation Agenda, Efacec reaffirms its technological and industrial leadership as a Portuguese company with a strong international presence in the energy and mobility sectors, by driving the development of a new generation of solutions for electricity network management, next-generation transformers, sustainable medium-voltage switchgear and electric mobility.
With a total investment of €34.5 million, of which €13.4 million is co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), Efacec is accelerating the transformation of electricity infrastructure globally through the development of proprietary and sustainable technology, digitalisation and circular economy principles.
Smart Grids: The brain of the energy transition
Efacec is modernising the electricity infrastructure with systems that combine protection, automation and advanced management, increasing the flexibility and resilience of networks in response to the growing share of renewable energy:
-
- Protection, Automation and Control (PAC) Equipment: Development of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) for digital substations, ensuring enhanced protection and stability of the grid.
- Advanced Electricity Network Management: Development of platforms for managing electricity distribution networks and renewable energy assets, featuring predictive operations and real-time analysis, enabling the optimisation and smart management of assets.
- Medium-Voltage Switchgear: Development of SF6-free solutions, based on advanced insulation and smart sensors, for 24 kV secondary distribution and 36 kV primary distribution, with lower environmental impact and greater operational efficiency.
Next-generation transformers and the circular economy
Sustainability is increasingly at the core of critical hardware development. In this context, Efacec is developing a new generation of shell-type transformers for high-power and high-voltage applications, featuring an innovative internal cooling system and more efficient and sustainable construction solutions.
In addition, it is developing innovative distribution transformers, featuring new construction solutions, new materials and more efficient cooling systems, designed and optimised for renewable energy generation applications with intermittent availability, such as solar and wind power, contributing to the supply of electricity in a sustainable, efficient, economical and safe manner.
At the same time, Efacec is positioning itself at the forefront of the circular economy by moving forward with the implementation of the Digital Product Passport. This initiative ensures equipment traceability throughout its life cycle, it promotes the use of recycled materials and extends its useful life, setting new standards for industrial responsibility.
Expansion in electric mobility and Industry 4.0
Efacec continues to strengthen its position as a technological leader in sustainable mobility, with the launch of high-power chargers (400 kW) and 1.6 MW distributed charging hubs, featuring advanced load balancing.
In addition, it is introducing a new version of its management platform, which integrates advanced load management, fleet management, plug-n-charge and asset management features, preparing the company to meet the demands of major network operators and international fleets and positioning itself among the most advanced suppliers of charging infrastructure in Europe.
To support this technological advancement, Efacec is investing in the modernisation of its manufacturing facilities through the implementation of Industry 4.0 concepts, such as Digital Twins and real-time monitoring, ensuring increased production efficiency, flexibility and competitiveness in international markets.
""The ATE Agenda is a key driver positioning Efacec to the forefront of technology, shaping the future of energy with “Made in Portugal” solutions that address the global challenges of decarbonisation and energy efficiency,’ said Miguel Pereira Gomes (Chief Technology Officer of the Efacec Group and President of the Association Alliance for the Energy Transition).
