The Floating Photovoltaic research pilot project, set up in the Monte Novo reservoir, aims to assess the impact on the environment of floating photovoltaic energy production in different systems.
The partnership is focused on comparing the performance of these installations with measurements on land and assessing their impact on ecology and water quality. Through rigorous data collection and analysis, the project aims to:
– Deepen understanding of the performance of this technology.
– Contribute to informed decisions in the development of renewable energies.
– Ensure sustainable environmental practices in continental water bodies.
The environmental and performance benefits include soil conservation, reduced evaporation and carbon emissions, greater efficiency and energy production, less need for cleaning and preservation of natural ecosystems.
This project is led by the University of Évora in collaboration with Capwatt, ISQ and WavEC – Offshore Renewables and represents another milestone in our journey towards a more sustainable future!
