The Port of Aveiro is moving ahead with a strategic investment in the construction of a new electrical substation, which will be the central pillar for the modernisation and sustainability of its operations. This project is part of the Agenda Alliance for the Energy Transition and reinforces the Port’s commitment to energy efficiency and reducing emissions.

The new substation will be key to optimising energy distribution and integrating renewable sources, making it possible in the future to implement shore power – a solution that will allow moored vessels to connect directly to the electricity grid, eliminating the use of diesel generators and reducing the maritime sector’s carbon footprint.

This investment is in line with the Port of Aveiro’s Energy Transition Strategy, approved in 2021, and with the goals of the European Green Deal for the decarbonisation of transport. By investing in electrical infrastructure as the basis for sustainable innovation, the Port of Aveiro is positioning itself at the forefront of the energy transition in the port sector.

With this project, the Port of Aveiro reaffirms its leading role in building a greener and more efficient future.
